Our Story

Built by operators, because what they needed didn't exist.

In 2000, Greg Wilson set out to deliver end-to-end solutions for building and managing communication networks. When fiber took off in the early 2010s, his team began rolling out fiber-to-the-home at scale across South Africa, connecting cities and rural communities to high-speed internet for the first time.

Scaling that fast meant automating everything, from concept and feasibility through installation, provisioning, and customer service. Nothing on the market could do it, so the team built it. That platform became the backbone for fiber operators and ISPs across South Africa.

Tested across hundreds of live deployments, the same platform came to the United States, where operators faced the same gap. Today AEX is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a US-based team supporting American operators and a South African team still serving operators there.

The turning point

Ripple Fiber proved two systems belong in one.

Ripple Fiber, a regional operator building a modern network from the ground up, ran AEX for its OSS and BSS while managing field teams on a separate platform, Field Squared. The results made the case that unifying them wasn't just logical, it was necessary.

In 2025, AEX acquired Field Squared, bringing OSS/BSS, field execution, asset management, and day-2 operations under one roof.

What does AEX do?

AEX provides the software, field service, and network services behind broadband networks. AEX Software handles OSS/BSS from coverage planning through provisioning and billing, AEX Field Service runs scheduling, dispatch, and installs, and AEX Network Services provides backbone, PoPs, NOC, helpdesk, and equipment supply.

Who founded AEX, and when?

AEX was founded in 2000 by Greg Wilson in South Africa. The team built the AEX platform while rolling out fiber-to-the-home at national scale, because no existing tool could automate the work.

Where is AEX headquartered?

AEX is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a US-based team supporting American operators and a team in South Africa serving operators there.

Can I use just one AEX product?

Yes. Each product works on its own. You can start with AEX Software, AEX Field Service, or AEX Network Services and add the others later. When they run together, the handoffs between stages are automated.

Does AEX work with utilities and co-ops moving into broadband?

Yes. AEX supports established ISPs as well as utilities, electric co-ops, and municipalities launching broadband for the first time, from planning and building the network through selling, installing, activating, and running service.
